About this opportunity

Join Star Dental as an Expanded Duties Dental Assistant

Star Dental is seeking an Expanded Duties Dental Assistant (EDDA) to support high-quality, ethical and conservative dental care for children, teens, adults and older adults at our Denver office.

Our team serves the community with respectful, nonjudgmental care. We welcome patients with Health First Colorado Medicaid, PPO coverage and self-pay, explain treatment clearly and recommend care based on clinical needs rather than insurance status.

The EDDA will work closely with our dentists and team members to keep appointments safe, organized and comfortable while performing only duties that are lawfully delegated and within the assistant’s documented training and competence.

This is an in-person W-2 position with full-time and part-time arrangements available at Star Dental, 1490 S Sheridan Blvd, Unit 102, Denver, CO 80232, near the Lakewood boundary. Some weekend availability is required. Weekend shifts are scheduled in advance, with specific days and hours discussed during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare treatment rooms, instruments and materials for scheduled procedures and complete safe room turnover between patients.
  • Provide efficient four-handed chairside assistance for preventive, restorative, emergency, endodontic and extraction procedures.
  • Perform expanded restorative functions assigned by the supervising dentist only when permitted by Colorado law and within documented training and competence.
  • Take dental radiographs only after meeting Colorado age, education and training requirements; no radiographic duties will be assigned before compliance.
  • Apply pit-and-fissure sealants when trained and competent, as delegated and supervised in accordance with Colorado law and Star Dental protocols.
  • Perform coronal polishing—smoothing and polishing natural and restored tooth surfaces, excluding scaling—under the supervision permitted by Colorado law.
  • Assist with intraoral photographs and digital scans within training and assigned duties.
  • Gather and document patient histories, update dental charts and record treatment accurately without independently diagnosing or treatment planning.
  • Fabricate and adjust provisional restorations and perform other reversible expanded duties when lawfully delegated and within training.
  • Follow infection-control, sterilization, radiation-safety, OSHA and office safety protocols.
  • Explain procedures and post-operative instructions as directed by the dentist, answer questions within the role and help patients feel respected and comfortable.
  • Maintain organized operatories, monitor clinical supplies and help keep equipment functioning properly.
  • Collaborate with dentists, hygienists, assistants and front-office team members to support timely, coordinated care for patients of all ages.

Required qualifications

  • Documented expanded-duties dental assisting education or training appropriate to the functions assigned.
  • Ability to perform careful, high-quality restorative and chairside work under dentist supervision.
  • Meet Colorado age, education and training requirements for dental radiography, or be able to complete the required training within three months of hire; radiographic duties will not be assigned before compliance.
  • Training and demonstrated competency for sealants and coronal polishing before performing those delegated duties.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification before beginning patient care.
  • Clear, respectful communication with patients and coworkers.
  • Reliable, organized and attentive to infection control, documentation and patient safety.
  • Ability to work in person at the Denver office and provide some weekend availability.

Preferred qualifications

  • At least one year of dental assisting or EDDA experience in a general dentistry setting.
  • Experience with direct restorative materials, provisional restorations, dental sealants, coronal polishing, digital imaging and intraoral scanning within lawful scope and training.
  • Experience supporting emergency, restorative, endodontic and extraction procedures.
  • Experience helping children, adults and patients returning after a long absence feel comfortable.
  • Familiarity with digital dental records.
  • Spanish-language ability is welcome but not required.

Licenses and certifications

  • Documentation of expanded-duties training appropriate to assigned functions.
  • Colorado-compliant dental radiography training or qualification.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification before beginning patient care.

Benefits

  • Benefits available to eligible full-time W-2 employees include health insurance, retirement benefits, and professional-development support. Full-time and part-time W-2 employees receive Colorado paid sick leave in accordance with applicable law. Eligibility and plan terms apply.
