Final insertion and adjustments
Your completed denture is inserted, the fit and bite are checked again, and you receive instructions for eating, speaking, cleaning and caring for it. Follow-up adjustments are available as your mouth adapts.

Do not use household glue or try to reshape a denture yourself. Save all pieces, keep them in a protective container and call us. A clean break, crack or dislodged tooth may be repairable; severe damage, warping, missing pieces or a denture that no longer fits may need replacement.
Repair and fit
Denture repair: what broke, and does it still fit?
A denture problem can interrupt meals, speech and everyday plans. When you call Star Dental, tell us whether the base cracked, a denture tooth came off, a partial denture broke, or the appliance has become loose. These problems can look similar at home but need different evaluations. A crack or break in the denture base
Save every piece in a protective container, including small fragments. Tell us whether the denture broke after a fall or while you were eating, and whether it had already been rocking or rubbing. The examination checks both the damage and how the denture fits your mouth. Joining broken pieces alone may not address an underlying fit problem. Do not use household glue, hot water or a home repair kit to force the pieces together.
A tooth fell out of the denture
Bring the detached artificial tooth if you can find it. Let the office know if any part is missing; do not assume that finding the tooth means it can simply be glued back into place. The dentist needs to assess the denture, the remaining teeth on the appliance and the way your upper and lower teeth meet. If the problem is a loose or broken natural tooth beside a partial denture, mention that when scheduling.
A partial denture has a damaged clasp or framework
A partial denture relies on its base, connectors and remaining natural teeth for support. A bent clasp, a fractured base and a damaged metal framework are not interchangeable repairs. Do not bend a clasp yourself or bite the partial into position. Tell us if it no longer seats normally, catches on a tooth or causes a sore spot. A partial that cannot be worn comfortably needs an assessment of your mouth as well as the appliance.

Bring the history, not just the broken pieces
Bring your denture, available fragments, medication list and insurance information. If you wear upper and lower dentures, ask whether both are needed. Note the approximate age of the appliance, previous repairs, recent extractions and any change in fit before the break. Mention pain, bleeding or difficulty eating when you call.
Before agreeing to work, ask what the estimate includes, whether another visit is needed and when the denture could realistically be ready. Material, damage, missing components, fit checks and the treatment required affect timing. Medicaid or PPO benefits must be checked for the specific repair; coverage for a new denture does not automatically establish coverage for a repair or reline. Health First Colorado includes complete and partial dentures among adult dental benefits. Frequency limits, benefit verification, documentation and authorization rules can apply. Help may also be available for qualifying lost, stolen or unrepairable dentures.

Will Private Insurance Pay?
Many PPO dental plans may cover all or part of a full denture, partial denture, replacement or repair. Coverage varies by plan and can depend on deductibles, annual maximums, waiting periods, frequency limits and whether a predetermination is required.

Getting Used to New Dentures
New dentures can feel different at first. Speaking and eating usually become easier with practice. Start with small bites of softer food, chew slowly on both sides and read aloud to become comfortable with speech.
Mild pressure areas can occur while your mouth adapts. If you develop persistent soreness, pain, looseness or difficulty chewing, call us for an adjustment. Do not file or bend the denture at home.
How to Care for Dentures
- Clean your denture every day with a soft denture brush and nonabrasive denture cleanser
- Rinse after meals and clean your gums, tongue and remaining teeth
- Remove dentures at night unless your dentist gives different instructions
- Keep dentures in water or an appropriate soaking solution when they are not being worn
- Never use hot or boiling water, which can distort the denture

Can a loose or painful denture be adjusted?

Will my dentures look natural?

Do all denture patients need teeth removed first?
No. Some patients already have missing teeth, and others can keep healthy natural teeth and use a partial denture. If damaged teeth need to be removed, we will explain the treatment sequence, healing and denture timing.
How should I clean my dentures?
Rinse and brush them daily with a soft denture brush and nonabrasive denture cleanser. Remove them at night unless your dentist instructs otherwise, and keep them in water or an appropriate soaking solution. Avoid hot water, bleach and abrasive toothpaste.
