A dental professional removes plaque and hardened tartar that brushing and flossing cannot fully remove.
X-rays are recommended based on need and help reveal decay, bone levels, infections and other concerns that may not be visible.
We look for bleeding, inflammation, recession, pockets and bone changes that may indicate gingivitis or periodontal disease.
Fluoride and protective sealants may be recommended to reduce cavity risk, especially for children and higher-risk patients.
You receive guidance about brushing, cleaning between teeth, fluoride toothpaste, diet and products suited to your needs.

Regular examinations help the dentist identify concerns before they become painful or more complex. Professional cleaning also removes tartar that cannot be brushed away at home. The right interval is individual: some patients do well with routine six-month visits, while others benefit from more frequent periodontal or preventive care.

Star Dental welcomes new patients, accepts Health First Colorado Medicaid and most PPO plans—including many Delta, Cigna, Aetna, MetLife and Guardian plans—and has Spanish-speaking staff available every day. Benefits and coverage are confirmed for each patient. Same-day appointments may be available; call for availability.
