STAR DENTAL · DENVER
Changing Dentists in Denver
Changing dentists is easier when you bring a clear account of your current care. Star Dental accepts new patients, can request records from your previous office and makes an independent diagnosis. Tell us about treatment already started, any temporary work and the questions you want your new dentist to answer.

Transfer useful information, not just an appointment date
You may be moving, changing insurance, looking for more convenient hours or seeking a different approach to explanations. Whatever the reason, start with the care that is already in progress. A temporary crown, unfinished root canal or recent extraction has follow-up needs that should not get lost during the change.
When calling Star, describe your main concern and mention any appointment already booked elsewhere. If you are in pain, say that first. We can help arrange an assessment and discuss which records would make it more useful.
What to request from the previous office
| Record | How it helps |
|---|---|
| Recent dental images and reports | Provides information about the teeth and earlier findings |
| Current treatment plan | Shows the recommendations and stages discussed |
| Summary of completed treatment | Distinguishes finished work from work still in progress |
| Details of implants or special components | Helps identify the system before restorative planning |
| Relevant specialist letters | Supports communication across the treating teams |
Ask both offices about the ordinary records-transfer process. Star can request records; your previous office may need authorization before sending them. Bring the documents you already have, but do not assume a screenshot of a plan contains all the information needed for diagnosis.
Will a new dentist need new X-rays?
Possibly. Existing images may be useful, but the dentist decides whether they answer the current clinical question. Star can take its own images when records are unavailable or additional information is needed. We always make our own independent diagnosis.
The ADA explains that imaging decisions depend on history, examination and clinical need. Tell us when and where earlier images were taken. The objective is an appropriate assessment, not a promise that every patient receives the same images at the same interval.
Prepare for the first appointment
Bring your current medicines, allergies, relevant medical history and coverage information. Note what has changed since your last visit: discomfort, a broken restoration, loose teeth, difficulty wearing a denture or a change in eating. Write down the most important questions before you arrive.
If another dentist recommended extensive care, tell us whether you are transferring treatment or asking specifically for a second opinion. Both involve an independent assessment, but knowing your purpose helps focus the discussion. Ask about the appointment fee and whether additional records or treatment would be separate.
Keep follow-up responsibilities clear
Before leaving, ask who is responsible for the next stage, when you should return and whom to contact if symptoms change. If a specialist remains involved, confirm how the offices will share relevant information. Keep copies of instructions for work that is still healing or unfinished.
For visitors returning home after care at Star, we can forward records to the usual dentist. Our visitor emergency guide explains which travel and follow-up details to discuss. A change of office should make the care plan easier to follow, not leave you guessing which step is next.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to have all my records before calling?
No. Start by calling with your concern and the previous office’s details. The team can explain which records to arrange before the visit.
Will Star automatically continue another dentist’s plan?
We review the information and make an independent diagnosis. The dentist will explain whether the earlier plan remains appropriate or whether more assessment or a different approach is needed.
Can you work with implants placed elsewhere?
Star offers implant-supported denture care for patients whose implants were placed at another clinic. Bring the implant records if available; compatibility and the specific restorative plan need assessment.
What if I am changing because of cost?
Bring the estimate and ask for a comparison of the treatment scope. Our estimate worksheet helps distinguish price differences from differences in the care proposed.
