“Pull a tooth” starts with finding the cause
Tell the team where the pain is, how long it has lasted and whether there is swelling, a broken tooth or recent treatment. A painful area may need an examination and appropriate images before the dentist can identify the source and recommend care.
At Star, X-rays and intraoral photos can help show the findings. Ask which tooth is involved and what makes extraction or another treatment appropriate. If saving the tooth is a reasonable option, discuss what that would involve as well as the removal option.

Local numbing and scheduled IV sedation
Local anesthesia numbs the area for treatment. IV sedation is a different option that requires assessment, a scheduled visit and insurance approval where applicable. It is not a same-day emergency add-on at Star.
Tell the team about previous problems with anesthesia, significant anxiety, medicines and health conditions. The treating clinicians will give preparation instructions for your plan. Do not stop prescribed medicines or follow another person’s fasting instructions on your own.
Emergency extraction costs
Star’s published range for a straightforward, non-wisdom extraction is generally $250–$350 per tooth, with local anesthetic included. The examination and needed X-ray or X-rays are separate, generally about $150 combined in the published example. Surgical extraction, wisdom teeth, sedation and other care have different scopes.
Ask for an estimate after assessment that identifies the tooth and procedure. If you have Medicaid, the self-pay range is not automatically your charge; benefits and any applicable approval must be checked. Think about what happens after removal
Ask whether the missing tooth should be replaced and what the options would involve. A replacement is a separate planning question from the extraction itself. If several teeth or dentures are involved, discuss the complete sequence before removal where possible.

Before leaving the office
Get the instructions for your procedure, the appropriate contact for concerns and a clear follow-up plan. Ask about eating, cleaning, activity, medicines and any return visit. Your treating team’s directions account for your procedure and health history.
Trouble breathing or swallowing or severe spreading swelling needs emergency medical care; call 911 for breathing difficulty. Report other concerning changes promptly to the treating office rather than assuming they can wait until a routine check.
