Medicaid Dental Appointment in Denver
Star Dental accepts Health First Colorado, Colorado’s Medicaid program, and welcomes new patients. Call to arrange your dental appointment and ask the team to check your eligibility and the benefits relevant to your visit. If you do not have your member card handy, the office can often check using your legal name and date of birth.

What to have ready when you call
- Your legal name and date of birth, matching your enrollment.
- Your member number or card if available.
- The reason for the visit, including pain, swelling or a broken tooth.
- Previous dental office details if records may be helpful.
- Any recent changes to your coverage or contact details.
- Your need for Spanish-language assistance or other appointment support.
Share identifying information directly with the office through its normal registration process. You do not need to post a member number in a public review or social-media message to ask about an appointment.
Describe the problem before asking about a procedure
“I have a broken tooth” and “I need an extraction” can lead to different conversations. Tell the team what is happening and let the dentist assess the treatment choices. Medicaid acceptance does not mean every requested procedure is appropriate or covered.
For an urgent concern, call first. Star usually accommodates same-day emergency appointments, but treatment depends on the diagnosis, appointment availability and any preparation required. IV sedation is a separately scheduled option, not a same-day emergency add-on.
Eligibility, benefits and approval are different checks
| Check | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Eligibility | Whether enrollment is active for the relevant date |
| Benefit rules | Whether the service is included and what limits apply |
| Service history | Whether previous care affects frequency or replacement rules |
| Required approval or review | What information the plan needs for the proposed care |
| Clinical assessment | Which options fit your current dental condition |
A card alone does not answer every question. Tell the team about recent dentures, extractions or treatment at another clinic so it can look at the complete picture. Ask what remains to be confirmed before a procedure is scheduled.
What to bring to the appointment
Bring your member information if you have it, your medication list, relevant medical history and any treatment plan you want to discuss. For a second opinion, the office can request prior records; the Star dentist still makes an independent diagnosis.
If you are asking about a denture, bring the appliance when the team requests it, including broken pieces. If you have implant-supported dentures from another office, ask which records would help identify the components. Do not assume a new appliance will be covered simply because an existing one is uncomfortable.
If coverage cannot be confirmed
Call before arriving if you know your coverage has changed. For nonurgent care, the team may need to postpone a visit while Medicaid eligibility is clarified rather than treating potentially covered care as an ordinary self-pay visit. Ask what information is missing and the next step to resolve it.
If you have urgent symptoms, describe them immediately so the team can discuss an appropriate care pathway. Coverage administration should not distract from recognizing serious symptoms. Breathing difficulty, trouble swallowing or severe spreading swelling needs emergency medical attention.
Plan for treatments with more than one appointment
Dentures, sedation and complex treatment plans can involve records, impressions, approvals and scheduled follow-up. Ask which parts must be completed before the treatment timeline begins. An eligible partial denture may be made in as little as one week after impressions, but insurance work can affect the overall start-to-finish schedule.
For benefit details, use the current Health First Colorado benefits information and ask the office about your specific proposed services. If you are approaching age 21, our adult-benefit transition guide explains the questions to raise before your next course of treatment.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my Medicaid card to call?
No. Call even if you cannot find it. Star can often check eligibility using your legal name and date of birth, though additional information may be needed.
Does Star accept new Medicaid patients?
Yes. Call to request an appointment and discuss your concern, current enrollment and any benefits that need verification.
Will Medicaid pay for everything the dentist recommends?
Coverage depends on the service, current eligibility and applicable program rules. A clinical recommendation and a coverage decision are separate.
Is Spanish-language help available?
Yes. Star has Spanish-speaking support staff available to help with translation. Tell the team you would like that assistance when booking.
