Describe when the looseness happens
Does the appliance move while speaking, lift during chewing or rub in one area? Did the change appear gradually, after a tooth was removed, after healing or after the denture broke? Tell the office whether it is a full denture, partial or implant-supported appliance.
Bring the denture even if you have stopped wearing it. If you have a previous appliance, that may help explain what changed, but the current mouth and denture still need examination. A photograph alone cannot establish the bite, pressure areas or underlying support.

Adjustment, reline, repair and replacement are different
An adjustment makes a targeted change to an appliance. A reline changes its tissue-facing surface to improve adaptation to the current mouth. A repair addresses a damaged part. Replacement may be discussed when the existing appliance cannot meet the need adequately.
Ask which problem the proposed work will solve. If a denture has both a crack and an unsuitable fit, repairing only the crack may leave the original concern. The dentist can discuss whether a reline is appropriate and what type of care is available for your case; do not assume it is the answer to every loose denture.
If the denture is new or follows extractions
Tell the treating team when it was fitted and what instructions you received. Immediate dentures are inserted after planned extractions, and the mouth can change during healing. Fit follow-up is therefore a separate part of the longer treatment plan.
Ask whether the current visit is included in the initial adjustment period or represents separate maintenance. What to avoid while waiting for assessment
Do not grind the denture, bend retaining parts, heat it or use household glue. The ADA’s denture guidance recommends professional assessment of poor fit and warns against home alterations. If wearing it causes pain or injury, call for advice about use until the appointment.
Ask which adhesive, if any, is suitable for your appliance and how it should be used. More adhesive does not answer why the fit changed. Follow product directions and the treating team’s guidance rather than using adhesive to postpone a persistent problem.
Plan costs around the work actually needed
There is no single loose-denture price. Ask for the examination and recommended work to be identified separately. A new conventional denture, repair, reline and implant-component assessment have different scopes. Coverage also needs checking for the specific service.
