Try-in appointment
You preview the proposed denture before completion. We check the fit and bite and make sure the tooth style, shape and color look right for you.
Final insertion and adjustments
Your completed denture is inserted, the fit and bite are checked again, and you receive instructions for eating, speaking, cleaning and caring for it. Follow-up adjustments are available as your mouth adapts.

Do not use household glue or try to reshape a denture yourself. Save all pieces, keep them in a protective container and call us. A clean break, crack or dislodged tooth may be repairable; severe damage, warping, missing pieces or a denture that no longer fits may need replacement.
Does Medicaid Cover Dentures?
For eligible Health First Colorado members, approved medically necessary removable dentures are listed at 100% of the covered service.
Health First Colorado includes complete and partial dentures among adult dental benefits. Frequency limits, benefit verification, documentation and authorization rules can apply. Help may also be available for qualifying lost, stolen or unrepairable dentures.

Will Private Insurance Pay?
Many PPO dental plans may cover all or part of a full denture, partial denture, replacement or repair. Coverage varies by plan and can depend on deductibles, annual maximums, waiting periods, frequency limits and whether a predetermination is required.

Getting Used to New Dentures
New dentures can feel different at first. Speaking and eating usually become easier with practice. Start with small bites of softer food, chew slowly on both sides and read aloud to become comfortable with speech.
Mild pressure areas can occur while your mouth adapts. If you develop persistent soreness, pain, looseness or difficulty chewing, call us for an adjustment. Do not file or bend the denture at home.
How to Care for Dentures
- Clean your denture every day with a soft denture brush and nonabrasive denture cleanser
- Rinse after meals and clean your gums, tongue and remaining teeth
- Remove dentures at night unless your dentist gives different instructions
- Keep dentures in water or an appropriate soaking solution when they are not being worn
- Never use hot or boiling water, which can distort the denture
- Continue regular dental visits so your mouth and denture fit can be checked

How long does it take to get dentures?
The timeline depends on the type of denture and the needs of the individual patient. Some cases can be completed in as little as one week from the initial impression to final denture insertion. How many teeth can a denture replace?

Can a loose or painful denture be adjusted?

Do all denture patients need teeth removed first?
No. Some patients already have missing teeth, and others can keep healthy natural teeth and use a partial denture. If damaged teeth need to be removed, we will explain the treatment sequence, healing and denture timing.
How should I clean my dentures?
Rinse and brush them daily with a soft denture brush and nonabrasive denture cleanser. Remove them at night unless your dentist instructs otherwise, and keep them in water or an appropriate soaking solution. Avoid hot water, bleach and abrasive toothpaste.
